Name - Buddy

Nicknames - Budders

Age - Senior

Weight - 62lbs

Other dogs - Good with other dogs. Currently lives with two male pitties

Cats - Has not been officially cat-tested but based on his reaction to them on walks, we think no cats

Kids - Does not live with children but enjoys meeting the ones in his neighborhood

Background - Owner surrender to one of our shelter partners up north

Crate trained - He will whine at first but does settle in

Leash trained - A bit of a puller on the slip leash. Walks better using a head harness/gentle leader

Housebroken - Buddy has been trained on how to use a doggy door

Commands known - Learning “sit”, “down”, “wait”. Knows “stay” and usually comes when called

Car rides - Good in the car

Bath time - Baths are not his favorite but he begrudgingly puts up with it

Affectionate - Buddy has been in foster for about a month and his affectionate side is just now starting to come out. He wags his tail when he sees his Foster Parents and will howl a greeting to Foster Mom when she comes home from work. He is a kisser and prefers to be near people

Activity level - Low to moderate. Loves going on walks

Play style - Buddy doesn’t really know how to play. Foster Mom has tried to introduce toys but he isn’t that interested

Bad habits - Can be reactive to other dogs on walks, jumps on furniture that he’s not supposed to

Redeeming qualities - Now that Buddy is starting to relax with his Foster Family, he is becoming more affectionate and trusting. He’s a very sweet dog, not a picky eater, takes treats gently, enjoys meeting new people

Best feature - His beautiful eyes

What Foster Mom wants you to know -

“Buddy took quite a while to warm up to us. He definitely had ‘shelter mentality’. He just didn’t quite know what to do with himself or what to expect from us and this new place. But now that he is starting to get used to the routine and relax, we are seeing that he really is a very nice dog. He is so attentive to us, doesn’t jump on us. He settles down nicely, not really a barker unless there is something to bark at. He has a very funny gurgly howl when he’s happy. He must have some hound dog in him, as his nose is always to the ground when he walks. It’s really quite funny to watch.
Whoever adopts Buddy will need to understand that he will need additional time to settle in and learn that he can fully trust them. Being abandoned earlier in his life has definitely affected him in that he needs a little extra time and patience. But once he does trust you and knows he’s in his forever home, he will be a great addition to a family.”
