Why Spay or Neuter Your Pet?
It is the responsible thing to do for your pet and for the entire community. The process of a spay (for a female) or neuter (for a male) is where a vet surgically removes the reproductive organs of your pet so they cannot produce offspring. This will help reduce the number of dogs and cats in shelters and make your pet happier, healther, more balanced, and live a longer life.
1. Females can have reproductive tract disorders and infections if not altered and males can get testicular cancer.
2. Spaying/Neutering decreases a dogs desire to get out and roam for a mate. It will take reproduction off their mind and allow them to be happy dogs.
3. It will also help get rid of undesirable behaviors such as aggression and territorial marking.
4. You will be doing your part in controlling the pet population. Dogs and cats die everyday in animal shelters all over the country because they don't have homes - don't add to those numbers by letting your pet reproduce.
Consult your vet for the appropriate time to spay or neuter your dog or cat. We spay and neuter our puppies at 4-5 months of age, but the sooner the better! Surgery can potentially be more risky as the dog gets older so it's best to do is sooner rather than later.
